<image:caption>Ana was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. She moved to Miami to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology and Ecology at the University of Miami. In her time here, she conducted research on mechanisms that support the survival of fish under severe hypoxia (lack of oxygen). She is deeply passionate about fauna conservation and even had the opportunity to combat illegal animal trafficking in Colombia, focusing her conservation efforts on dart frogs and manatees. She is most excited about the chance to work with sponges and corals and is very excited to learn about their vital roles in maintaining ocean health. Her favorite coral species is Pseudodiploria strigosa, the symmetrical brain coral!</image:caption>

While there, she completed an independent study of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and took a scientific diving course in the Florida Keys! Her passion for coral reef restoration led her to internships with organizations including the Florida Aquarium and Mote Marine Laboratory, where she gained experience in coral research, husbandry, and sexual reproduction. Kerri is thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to the reefs that shaped her love for marine science. Her favorite coral species is Diploria labyrinthiformis, the grooved brain coral.</image:caption>

At Goshen, Annalise had the opportunity to work with the I.CARE dataset for her senior thesis presenting survivorship data for the reefs we outplant on. She has also worked with the Wildlife Conservation Society in Zanzibar to remap the island’s coral cover to understand the impact of establishing an MPA (Marine Protected Area). Annalise is excited to grow in a broader ecological perspective and challenge her scientific thought process through the sponge restoration program. James has been interested in marine science since childhood, but the first time he truly explored the field was during a trip to Sea Camp in Big Pine key during his tropical marine ecology course in college. James is excited to continue to learn more about reef ecology and experience all I.CARE has to offer! His favorite coral species is the thin-leaf lettuce coral, Agaricia tenuifolia, because they have corallites on either side of their blade-like plates and can form colonies in so many different shapes!</image:caption>

Prior to his start at I.CARE, Gaven spent two years working in environmental consulting where he provided assessment and advisory services to clients on matters pertaining to the management of environmental issues. Gaven is most excited to work with members of the Florida Keys community and engage them in coral reef restoration. He is thrilled to be working with the local dive community and form meaningful connections while educating the public about the importance of coral reef ecosystems through hands-on experiences. Nathan is specifically interested in studying coral resilience to stressors such as disease and warming waters. Post I.CARE, Nathan started attending graduate school at the University of Georgia in January of 2022. He is working on his masters degree in Dr. Erin Lipp’s Environmental Health Science lab.
